Editorial Standards

Last updated: April 1, 2026

StainDesk publishes stain removal guides that are based on real testing, not recycled advice. This page explains exactly how we create, verify, and maintain our content.

Our Core Principles

Every editorial decision at StainDesk is governed by three principles: accuracy, transparency, and usefulness. We do not publish methods we have not tested. We do not accept payment for editorial coverage. We do not optimize for word count at the expense of clarity.

Who Writes Our Content

All StainDesk articles are written by members of our editorial team, each of whom has direct, hands-on experience in cleaning and stain removal:

  • Sarah Chen, Editor-in-Chief — Chemistry degree, 3 years commercial cleaning experience, 8 years of editorial work in the cleaning and home care space. Sarah oversees all editorial decisions and personally tests the majority of methods published on the site.
  • Marcus Rodriguez, Senior Writer — 12 years as a professional house cleaner, having worked in thousands of homes across a range of surface types and stain scenarios. Marcus specializes in practical, real-world methods that work under non-ideal conditions.
  • Dr. Elena Vasquez, Science Advisor — PhD in Materials Science, specializing in polymer chemistry and surface interactions. Elena reviews all scientific explanations for accuracy and ensures that our descriptions of stain chemistry are correct.

Our Testing Methodology

Before any stain removal method is published on StainDesk, it is tested by a member of our editorial team. Our testing process follows these steps:

  1. Create the stain under realistic conditions. We intentionally create stains on test materials — the same fabrics, surfaces, and materials our readers use. We do not test on specially prepared laboratory samples.
  2. Apply the method exactly as written. We follow the method as it will appear in the published guide. We do not use special equipment or conditions that readers would not have access to.
  3. Document results photographically. We photograph the stain before and after treatment, noting the time required, the number of applications, and any complications.
  4. Test multiple times for consistency. A method that works once may not be reliable. We test each method at least three times before publishing. Methods that succeed fewer than 70% of the time are not recommended without explicit caveats.
  5. Compare against alternatives. We test competing methods and products to determine which performs best. Our recommendations reflect actual comparative performance, not brand recognition or marketing claims.

How We Handle Corrections

When we discover that a published method is incorrect, ineffective, or potentially harmful, we update the article immediately. Corrections are noted at the top of the article with the date of the update. We do not silently edit articles to remove errors — we acknowledge them.

If you believe you have found an error in one of our guides, please contact us at hello@staindesk.com. We investigate all credible reports of inaccuracy.

Affiliate Links and Sponsored Content

StainDesk participates in affiliate programs, including the Amazon Associates Program. When we link to products on Amazon or other retailers, we may earn a small commission if you make a purchase through that link. This commission comes at no additional cost to you.

Our affiliate relationships do not influence our editorial recommendations. We only recommend products that we have tested and genuinely believe work. We have declined affiliate arrangements with brands whose products we do not endorse.

We do not accept payment for editorial coverage, sponsored articles, or positive reviews. If a brand offers to pay us to recommend their product, we decline.

AI and Automated Content

StainDesk does not publish AI-generated articles. All content is written by human members of our editorial team. We may use AI tools to assist with research or editing, but the final content is reviewed, edited, and approved by a human editor before publication.

Update Policy

Stain removal science evolves. New products enter the market. New research emerges. We review our most-read articles on a quarterly basis and update them when better methods or products are identified. The "Last updated" date on each article reflects when the content was most recently reviewed or revised.
